The wood, at the heart of our real estate project in Valleyfield
Carl Labrecque

As part of our Merlo project in Valleyfield, we have made the choice to build entirely in wood. This is not an insignificant choice, but rather a thoughtful decision, guided by our desire to offer sustainable living environments that meet current and future needs. Wood, as a building material, has several advantages that make it a particularly interesting option for residential and community projects. Here’s why this material has become our choice.
A versatile material that is quick to implement
One of the great advantages of wood is its quick execution. Thanks to the prefabrication of elements in the factory, work on the site can proceed more swiftly, which allows for the reduction of construction delays while limiting unforeseen events.
Wood is also an excellent natural insulator: it is 15 times more insulating than concrete, which helps improve the energy performance of the building and reduce overall operating costs.
Proven strength and durability
Contrary to popular belief, wood is extremely strong and durable. It withstands earthquakes, strong winds, and the whims of the weather. Used for centuries, it has proven itself in both urban and rural settings.
And when well designed and maintained, a wooden building ages very well, while preserving its natural beauty.
A warm and modern appearance
Wood allows for great architectural freedom. It adapts to all designs, from the most minimal to the boldest. It is ideal for creating large open spaces, promoting natural light, and offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
An environmentally friendly choice
Building in wood is also making a concrete gesture for the environment. This material is renewable, recyclable, and biodgradable. It captures and stores CO₂ throughout its life, thus reducing the carbon footprint of the building.
In a context where sustainable real estate is becoming increasingly important, wood emerges as an essential ally in reducing GHG emissions in the construction sector.
Daily comfort
Wood is a natural material that contributes to a healthy indoor environment. It helps regulate ambient humidity, stabilizes indoor temperature, and provides interesting thermal comfort, both in summer and winter.
Used in the form of laminated wood, it also offers good fire resistance, making it a safe choice for buildings that accommodate the public.
Conclusion
We are proud to showcase this know-how as part of our Merlo project. Construction in wood enables us to balance performance, durability, and quality of life — three values that are dear to us in all our projects.
