Heading towards 2025: Key trends in design and architecture

Audrey Anne Bouclin

At the dawn of 2025, the world of design and architecture continues to evolve to meet the constantly changing needs of occupants. During our latest webinar "Towards 2025: Discover Emerging Trends in Design and Architecture!", organized in collaboration with A.DESIGN, we explored innovative human-centered approaches focused on well-being and sustainability. Here is an overview of these trends that are transforming the way we design spaces.

Spaces Designed for Humans First

The thought surrounding layout can no longer ignore the specific needs of occupants. More than just spaces to inhabit, our interiors are transforming into true sanctuaries. This human-centered approach allows us to design places that adapt to their daily lives, optimizing both comfort and functionality. By placing occupants at the heart of design decisions, we ensure that each space meets their aspirations for well-being, efficiency, and connection with their environment.

Multifunctional Spaces: Optimizing Every Square Foot

In response to the reduction of living space, optimization has become a necessity. Multifunctional spaces allow us to maximize every square foot without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics. Ingenious solutions now transform bedrooms into offices by day or kitchens into leisure areas by night. This approach not only adapts spaces to the changing needs of occupants but also minimizes ecological footprints by using every available centimeter in an optimal way.

Biophilia: Reconnecting the Interior and Exterior

In response to the need for nature, many projects adopt a biophilic approach, where the interior harmoniously blends with the exterior. By integrating natural elements, such as plants, organic materials, and spaces open to natural light, interiors reconnect with natural elements. This fusion provides occupants with a sense of tranquility and promotes their well-being while addressing current ecological challenges.

Well-being and Energy: The Feng Shui Approach

The approach of feng shui is gaining popularity, especially in living and working spaces. By applying its principles, designers create places that optimize the circulation of positive energy, adapting the layout according to the function of each room. This philosophy enhances the overall well-being of occupants by offering spaces that not only meet practical needs but also nourish their emotional balance.

Connected Buildings for a Better Quality of Life

The integration of new technologies in buildings is becoming the norm to provide comfort and practicality to occupants. Thanks to connected innovations, it is possible to manage lighting, heating, and even control security remotely, all while contributing to better energy efficiency. Home automation solutions also allow for the customization of spaces based on residents' preferences, offering a tailored and more sustainable environment. And who knows? Maybe we will soon see drone landing stations in buildings, facilitating package deliveries?
